Living up to its motto “to preserve and to show,” Film Archive Austria aims to be a place of exchange, a meeting place where moving minds is as important as moving images. In this sense, archiving, collecting, restoring and documenting the cinematic heritage in all its forms and formats, though all crucial activities, are only part of what an active contemporary film archive is all about. A collection and the work invested in documenting and maintaining it only come truly alive if there also exists an infrastructure for their adequate presentation and communication. It is in the open exchange and discussion with other cultural institutions and personalities and through contact with the public at large, that the true significance of a collection is really revealed. A collection has to be in the public eye in order to unfold its full potential. To achieve maximum visibility, the FAA offers a wide variety of educational programs, including:
Presentations of films
Presentations of archival work
Regular publications from our in-house press
Organization of special events and festivals
Organization of conferences and talks
Guided tours and workshops for children and adults
In addition, the Study Center and the Studio Theater at our Augarten location welcome anyone interested in conducting their own research project about Austria’s audio-visual heritage. Guided tours for groups and schools can be arranged by request for any day of the week, both during and outside regular opening hours. Feel free to write us!
