Technical Department

Over the last few years, the FAA’s technical department, located at the Audio-Visual Center Augarten, has been gradually expanded and overhauled to meet new user’s requirements. The department is in charge of in-house projects ranging from high-quality digital film restorations to the mass digitization of entire collections. In addition, the department handles customer requests from all over the world. Its state-of-the-art infrastructure, which includes several professional scanners, enables data to travel safely from the analog to the digital world.

Recent years have seen a surge in demand for digital or file-based formats, which often have to be delivered on a just-in-time basis. Every year, the FAA furnishes more than two hundred professional productions (film and TV productions, museum and exhibition projects, etc.) and educational projects with audio-visual archival content. Another service offered by the department for which there is growing demand is the provision of technical assistance, from programming presentational equipment to compiling archival materials.

The technical department also plays a crucial role in the FAA’s publishing activities. By supervising all DVD editions and online publications, it helps the FAA achieve its goal of being an “active archive.”
